the words of John Wesley
all the good you can, by all the means you can, in
all the ways you can,
in all the places you can, at all the times you can,
to all the people you can,
as long as ever you can.

flies. As I approach retirement with a certain
degree of trepidation –
and excitement – I realise that it is seven
years since I was invited to come to
Idle Baptist Church. Now it is time to move on and
after our final service on
2nd March Rosemary and I will be moving to start
a new life in Church Brough.
After living most of our married life in urban settings,
Skipton and Idle, we will be becoming country folk.
Church Brough is on the
edge of the Pennines about 80 miles north of Idle
and 4 miles north of Kirkby
Stephen. The village has a Church, Church Hall, Primary
School, a ruined
Castle (like Skipton once the home of Lady Anne Clifford)
and an Ice Cream
Parlour. Within walking distance in Brough their
is a convenience store and a
few other facilities. However it is a 20 mile trip
each way to the nearest
Morrisons or Asda, so a full shopping list will always
be a necessity.
Even the Co-op store is 4 miles distant.
We will be worshipping mostly with Upper Eden Baptist
Church in Kirkby
Stephen where we have already been made most welcome.
It is a small
congregation, but with a range of ages and as well
as regular bible studies
also works with children and is part of Churches
Whilst I started this piece talking about retirement,
that is an incorrect phrase as
we are simply moving into a different phase of service
to God and we will see
how he makes use of us in this rural setting.
Once we return from a holiday in mid April we do
invite you to call and see us.
Our address will be:-
Mount Athos, Church Brough, Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria
We do not have a telephone line at present, but I
can be reached on my
mobile – 07742583089.
